Frequently Asked Questions:

Will I Have to Take a Coast Guard Exam?

Yes and No. Safe Boating America administers all USCG examinations. When you complete our course you take your final examinations at one of our Proctor sites- so you DO NOT have to take an examination at the Coast Guard. If you don't take the course with us, you are required to take your examinations at the Coast Guard where they choose from thousands of questions in their data base. All topic areas from our examinations are fully covered to ensure a complete understanding of the relevant material prior to testing.

How Do I Get My License?

Once you have passed our multiple-choice exam, a course completion certificate will be issued and turned into the Coast Guard in lieu of taking their exam. You do not test at the Coast Guard Regional Exam Center.

Is there a retest policy?

Yes. The test is given in four sections. If you do not meet the minimum score requirements on any section, you only need to retest the section(s) where your score was below the minimum. You can retest after a review of the material on which you were lacking the necessary knowledge.
